Parade Guidelines

General Information 2008 Parade

  1. I will have a booth setup at approximately 8:30 a.m. if you wish to come early to register or get your packet information.

  2. Please go to your spot in the lineup, if you know it, before coming to the registration booth.
Come to the registration booth at the corner of Alder and 5th to get your parade packet after 8:30 a.m.

  3. Place your number card on the left front side of your entry (driver’s side) so the parade announcer can identify you. If you are riding a horse, place your number on your left arm or side.

  4. Judging begins at 10:00 a.m. SHARP. Those participants who are not in the lineup at 10:00 am when the judges come by will not be judged. We only have a 30-minute window of time to judge the entries. We need the last 30 minutes to hand out awards and get the information to the announcing stand.

  5. Judges will be looking at workmanship, originality, beauty, costumes and following the theme.

  6. Candy, flyers, or trinkets may be handed out to the audience by people walking in the parade. None of these items may be thrown to bystanders. A responsible adult must be present for the duration of the parade when these items are given out.

Equestrian entries

  1. Only experienced horses should be ridden in the parade.

  2. Only experienced riders should ride in the parade.

  3. Your horses should be fit and look healthy.

  4. All equestrian units, please unload your animals on Cherry Street and then move your vehicles to the parking lot at Scio High School at the end of the parade route.

  5. PLEASE clean the high school parking lot of all animal droppings before you leave.

Parade Route
The parade starts at 5th and Main Street just as we have in previous years. The parade will travel down Main Street to the Stayton-Scio Highway. Turn right (East) on the highway and continue to the entrance of the Scio High School parking lot where the parade will disband.

PARKING for parade participants
We have permission to park all parade entry vehicles at the Scio High School parking lot including horse trailers.  There is a large paper recycling dumpster on the corner where registration begins. This will severely limit the number of vehicles that can park in the grassy area near the Fire Station. Please do not leave any trash in the high school parking lot when you leave.
